Carlow Southern Relief Road Public Consultation 1

Thursday 12th June 2025: 2pm – 7pm (In person)

Shaw Room, Carlow Central Library, Tullow Street, Carlow

Carlow County Council, in partnership with Laois County Council and Department of Transport (DoT), invite those who live, work or travel through the study area along the southern edge of Carlow Town and any other interested parties to participate in the first non-statutory public consultation for the Carlow Southern Relief Road (CSRR) in person only on the 12th of June and online between the 12th June and 10th July 2025.

The CSRR is a long-term strategic project identified as part of Project Carlow 2040, aiming to create a 7-8km multi-modal transport corridor that:

  • Removes through-traffic from Carlow town centre;
  • Reduces congestion;
  • Increases public transport journey time reliability; and
  • Improves safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Carlow-Graiguecullen Local Transport Plan (LTP), notes that the CSRR will enhance regional connectivity between the Midlands and the South-East, while also promoting walking, cycling, and public transport use.

The project will link Graiguecullen with Eastern Carlow and improve journey times for those who live, work or spend time in the area.

What have we done so far?

The project is currently coming to the end of Phase 1: Concept and Feasibility. So far, the project team have focused on developing an understanding of the area, setting clear objectives for the project, developing a Study Area for the project and identifying any challenges or opportunities that could affect the development of the transport corridor.
